Robert

Robert is a multi award winning singer, director and songwriter. After studies at the Elder Conservatorium, HMT Leipzig ‘Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy and the Young Artist program of the Opera National de Lyon, Robert has sung nationally and internationally in a repertoire spanning the early baroque to the present day. The greatest character roles now occupy much of his performance schedule, including celebrated performances as Mime in Wagner’s Das Rheingold and Siegfried (Melbourne Opera) Bob Boles in Britten’s Peter Grimes (Sydney Symphony), Tanzmeister in Strauss’ Ariadne auf Naxos (under Simone Young) and upcoming debut as Herod in Strauss’ Salome and reprise of Mime in Das Rheingold and Siegfried for Melbourne Opera.
Equally at home on the concert platform, his repertoire includes the Evangelist of Bach’s St Matthew and St John Passion, Britten’s St Nicolas, Tippett’s A Child of Our Time and all of Handel’s heroic tenor roles.
Robert made his directorial debut with More Guilty than the Poet in 2018 for the SA Festival Centre, a Schubert/Circus synthesis hailed as ‘ingenious and thought provoking’. Further directing credits include the ‘revelation’ in pairing Buxtehude and Indigenous dance in his creative work for the Song Company ‘Arms of Love’ his ‘fantastically inventive theatrical transformation’ Handel’s Acis and Galatea for Genesis Baroque, and Handel’s Radamisto for Apollo Opera and his staging of Brahms Liebeslieder Dances of Passion for The Song Company.
Despite his acclaimed opera experience he has extensive training in contemporary voice and belt voice with original releases in contemporary pop also.
Additionally, Robert is a dedicated teacher of voice, songwriting and studio production, Robert has taught at Melbourne’s Monash University and Trinity College in South Australia, and former students are now professionals in their own right. He believes in finding the truth in every voice and helping overcome technical barriers to allow for a truly unique, individual form of expression.
